Ibuildings gets Comic Relief's online vision for Sport Relief 2012 on track
To encourage a record number of participants to get involved with Sport Relief 2012, Comic Relief was looking to build an engaging web platform to support its online registration, event management and fundraising activities.
Marcus East, Head of Future Media and Technology at Comic Relief, explains: "Our goal was to provide a self-service portal for participants to safely organise and collect sponsorship donations from friends and family, while adhering to best practice for dealing with under 16s."
To help achieve this goal, Comic Relief contacted Ibuildings, an open source web development company, with a proven track record of delivering complex, bespoke web applications.
Paul Wander, Director at Ibuildings, comments: "We are delighted to have been selected by Comic Relief to help build a solid foundation for their future campaigns. This is a real feather in our cap and we are very proud to have such a valuable customer with such complex needs."
Marcus East continues: "With a number of high-profile sporting events taking place next year, Comic Relief is expecting to significantly increase the interest and amount raised from Sport Relief 2012. We are excited to be working with Ibuildings on this project, building a platform that not only manages the campaign’s fundraising expectations, but also provides an engaging experience that participants can enjoy."
A web platform supporting all aspects of campaign activity
The solution to this challenge is FROST, a secure, robust and cost-effective web platform capable of supporting all aspects of Comic Relief's campaign and fundraising activities online. FROST allows Sport Relief Mile participants and other supporters to easily secure sponsorship donations for their own work or school-related fundraising events.
Participants are able to search for Mile events close to their postcode, and set up a self-service profile to invite friends, family and colleagues to join them. Profile pages are interactive and engaging, and the platform seamlessly blends in social media channels to build online buzz around the campaign using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Looking beyond Sport Relief 2012
The majority of the platform is already live, with more features being rolled-out through an agile development process. The campaign will reach its peak on Sunday 25th of March with hundreds of Mile events taking place across the country.
But Marcus East is already looking beyond Sport Relief 2012: "Whilst working towards Sport Relief 2012, we also want to make sure we are investing in a flexible, yet robust, platform, that can deal with high volumes of users, traffic and financial transactions to support any future Comic Relief campaign."
