Hi!
Next saturday (24th of January 2008) the Dutch PHP usergroup (phpGG) will host an all day frontend event in The Hague (Den Haag). It features the following talks:

At Ibuildings we are constantly on the lookout for high quality people, who want to get involved in a variety of complex projects (and maybe some simpler ones). Although quality is hard to define, recently we have not just been looking for a long list of skills and experience, but also candidates who have the potential to play with the big boys, people who feel they can, one day, contribute at the highest level.
This has been an interesting exercise, although frustrating, sorting out the wheat from the (sometimes megalomaniac) chaff. The idea is that we are trying to 'spot' people early in their career, who have the right attitude and capacity for learning. Why am I blogging this? Well, as we are currently a growing business, we need good people NOW. But also, in the longer term, we want to be aware of the good people out there in the community, and to be on mutual radars even if it doesn't look like we need people at that very minute. It seems that on our 'PHP' projects, good Javascript skills are needed more often than not these days, and some of it is extremely complex and demanding. Are you one of those 'people with potential' out there? Speak to us, get on our radar, and one day the timing might be right for us both. Tuesday, April 15. 2008PFCongrez 2008
Saturday the 12th of April a delegation of 8 Ibuildings employees attended the 3rd PFCongrez event in Maarssen, NL. This yearly event is initiated by an association surrounding the popular Dutch website PHPFreakz.nl. As always, conferences like these provide an excellent opportunity to put some faces with the names you got to know over resource websites or IRC.
A comfortable train trip brought us to Utrecht, from where we got on the bus to the location where the conference was held. Some introducing and handshaking later we sat down on some not-too-comfortable chairs, anxiously awaiting the line-up for the day. Continue reading "PFCongrez 2008 "

Wednesday, January 30. 2008Four ways to become a better developer
I was just reading my daily portion of phpdeveloper.org and encountered this article with 4 ways to become a better developer.
The four options discussed might be obvious to most, but I know from experience that they're not obvious to everyone, so I think it's a good read. I especially like the fourth item, on how PHP developers should focus not only on PHP, but also look at Javascript, CSS and HTML. I think it's hard to build an application that consists of PHP only, and even if you have dedicated graphical guru's to do the difficult HTML/CSS stuff (like we do), developers still encounter a fair share of CSS/HTML and Javascript. And in general, it's good to widen your scope and also read about technologies that you might not use directly, but might encounter in the future. Thursday, February 1. 2007Prototype Windows
