The morning started with a breakfast as usual and directly after the breakfast we headed to the opening talk which was about Magento E-Commerce. The presentation itself was well made but was more targeted to the non-tech savvy people. I think we were supposed to see the 'Age of the literate machines' by Zak Greant but unfortunately he had to cancel. All in all, good work from the Magento guys on such a short notice.
After the opening talk was over I teamed up with Paul and Jeroen to visit the Googleplex. Me and Paul had to fly back on the next day just after the closing keynote so this was the only chance to see the place. I was surpised that the whole area was covered with free Google wifi and a bit scared that the wifi login page greeted me with a message 'Welcome back, Mikko'.
After returning back to the conference I heard that we had missed one of the best talks in the conference (State of Ajax, Dion Almaer). That was really a shame, I need to check the slides later.
The next talk for me was Chris Shifflet's talk about security. It was fairly interesting and centered around user-experiences. Have you ever considered that when you forward your users to the 3rd party payment site you are forcing them to trust that party? I haven't considered security from the user experience point of view so this was an eye opener for me.
The next track contained two Zend talks, talk about programming with Vim and Sebastian's talk about CI. I have spent a full day in Sebastian's tutorial so I kind of knew what to expect from the talk. I am not a Vim user personally so I decided to take the time to socialize with people. I was sitting with Paul Reinheimer (the salmon legend) and Davey Shafik and continued my work on the Growl extension.
The last track for me was Ivo's talk about Enterprise PHP. I have seen the talk before but Ivo's talks are always fun to listen. I think the presentation went well and people were swarming to talk to Ivo after the talk.
On the Wednesday evening our team divided into two: Ivo, Paul and Jeroen went to a Microsoft party and Martin, Peter, Marc and me headed to the Yahoo party. The party was a blast with free drinks and the raffle (Win Rasmus for a day). At the end of the day (which was around midnight) we were tired but happy. The day went well and we really had a great time.
