Despite it being Sunday we had to get up very early (or was it late ? That 9-hour time difference keeps confusing me..)
Paul knew a nice spot to have breakfast, so after a quick coffee at the hotel we were on our way.
The restaurant Paul had recommended is near Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway, the road we had decided to use for the trip. Outside Santa Monica the road hugs the Pacific coast and you have a beatiful view of the ocean. And if you are lucky and patient you can see dolphins.
| After about an hour we arrived at Paradise Cove. A really nice place with great food ! (This is the last picture of us eating, I promise !) | |
Now we were all set for a long trip up the Californian coast. A long ride, but the Pacific Coast Highway runs through some very beautiful landscape:
| We are used to small countries and almost any three-hour drive will get you into another country, so we are not used to day-long drives. But the landscape managed to keep (almost) all of us awake. | |
| After a few more hours in the car we were all in need of a break to stretch our legs and maybe have some food. Despite our pleading, Martin kept on driving until he stopped at yet one more beautiful spot where we and a bird got some food. We were glad Martin refused to stop until this restaurant, because the view from this restaurant, situated on top of a cliff, was simply amazing. | |
Back on the road again, for the final stretch to Santa Clara. Did I say LA is big ? California is bigger.. Some more hours in the van, with Peter getting out occasionally to shoot a bit of video. And then after a Pacific sunset we finally arrived the end of our road trip. ZendCon was now getting very close. This concludes the postings on our roadtrip; from now on, we'll blog about the actual conference.
