ZendCon Trip Day 1: Our arrival in LA

Just like any PHP developer, we at Ibuildings always like to hear about new developments, learn best practices and generally hang out with other developers. So this year we again decided to go to ZendCon with a group from our Dutch and British team. I was one of the lucky ones to go there, but on the condition that I write a blog about it, so here goes...  


The flight was over 10 hours, but I had a window seat next to the exit, so I had plenty of legroom. Unfortunately there was a thick cloud cover for most of the flight over Greenland and northern Canada, so I could not see the ice and the glaciers, but over southern Canada the sky cleared and I got a glorious view of the scenery below, with the rocky mountains, corn (?) circles and a huge forest fire.ZCVlucht 017

After we landed at LAX we had to get through the usual tedious immigration routine, but after about half an hour or so we were waved through. Paul and Mikko had arrived about half an hour earlier than us and they were waiting for us. Then a short trip with a shuttle bus to the car rental and after some more formalities we were on our way to the hotel. We were all very tired from the flight, but our eagerness to see LA won out and so we went out to look for dinner at Venice Beach.zendcon0017
We found a nice restaurant at the beachfront where we had a big American dinner and a few drinks. After that, with the wall clocks at 22:00 and our body clocks at 07:00, we went back to the hotel and had some badly needed sleep.zendcon0021
