Finally after more then six months of rescheduling my exam appointments I had the time to do some proper preparation and took the test.
Getting your MySQL developer certificate means that you have to go through two tests. Each of them has 70 multiple choice questions. Both tests will take up to a maximum of 90 minutes. At Ibuildings we use MySQL a lot. Being a PHP developer you're not always focused on advanced MySQL features. Especially with MySQL 5.0 you can benefit from using those advanced features. Often a developer prefers not to rely on database specific code and tries to resolve this in the application logic. Implementing MySQL's advanced features can benefit you and your users. In order to prepare myself I used the MySQL certification study guide. I can recommend the book to anyone taking the exam. Although I have more than 8 years of experience with MySQL there is still a lot to learn.
Together with my co-worker Peter Verhage I took the first test two weeks ago. As with most pearson vue tests you get the results immediately after finishing the test. Both of us passed the exam. Last week we took the second - and final - developer exam. I found the test a lot harder than the first but nevertheless both of us passed the test. Yes, finally we are the first certified MySQL developers at Ibuildings. We're planning to have all PHP developers MySQL certified so the rest will follow soon. I'll definitely benefit from having a MySQL certification. I found the exams testing your knowledge about MySQL and SQL in general. Studying the book alone isn't enough to get you to pass the tests. You definitely need some practical MySQL experience and knowledge about SQL in general. Good look to my future MySQL certified co-workers! Share         Comments

How do you profit from your certification, did you really learn a lot or is it more cause of having a certificate and getting better jobs ?
Its both. I learned lots of specific MySQL gotcha's and have a better understanding about MySQL 5.0. I'll definitely use more of MySQL's 5.0 advanced features.
That sounds good, but mhh still specious if i am an employee i will do as a freelancer i don´t see the advantage.

You're able to take the exam in any pearson vue test center. If you go to http://www.pearsonvue.com/mysql/ and log-in or create an account you're able to select a test centre near your site. Every major city in the Netherlands have one or more test center's. If you require training you can check the MySQL site at http://www.mysql.com/training/. Congratulations to you and your colleague. Like you, I too had to reschedule my MySQL exam dates time after time (for the past six months already). Maybe I just have to do it, just like you've done. The certification exam is also a perfect way to pick up those MySQL things you haven't yet encountered, so a good thing for anyone who's working with MySQL on a day-to-day basis. Thanks for the recommendation to use the MySQL certification study guide. And I will take into consideration that studying the book alone isn't enough to get you to pass the tests. You definitely need some practical MySQL experience and knowledge about SQL in general.

First I'd like to say thank you for the recommendation to use MySQL. Yes, you are right that it is not enough to use the book to receive a good experience and knowledge about MySQL. When we study something on the first place we must put the practice.
