We specialise in Enterprise Web Development, assisting organisations that wish to exploit open source technologies. Ibuildings also provides high-level PHP consultancy, maintains a training practice, and runs a 24/7 support service. We partner with Zend Technologies and php|architect.
The Job
At Ibuildings, you'll be involved in challenging application development projects for blue chip companies, and will be working with the best in the industry on a variety of complex assignments, from development to consulting and training.
Last year, members of our development team:
- Built a service layer that integrates 46 legacy systems for a large telecommunications provider
- Trained Sony’s PHP team in sunny Istanbul
- Evaluated the suitability of Sybase for PHP developers
- Helped a media company get their crashing Drupal site back on track
- Audited over 250,000 lines of code for a well-known anti-virus company
- Built live data feeds for the BBC’s World Cup iPhone app
- Built large Magento stores for Warner Music, Kookai, Interflora and other retailers
- Published over 20 tutorials on techPortal
- Attended PHP UK Conference in London, DPC in Amsterdam, Le Web in Paris, tek in Chicago, Confoo in Montreal, and many other conferences
About You
- You have an excellent working knowledge of PHP and web application development.
- You are a self-starting coder and well versed in various technologies/languages.
- You have a minimum of five years commercial experience in PHP development and preferably a good computer science related degree.
- More importantly, you have an aspiration to become a high-level consultant and/or developer in this area, and a drive to be challenged and to expand your skills.
- You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- You are a strong team player, and have good communication skills.
- You are actively seeking an exciting new opportunity.
- You have solid experience implementing PHP applications, and an interest in and awareness of best practices in software development.
- You are able to regularly commute to our office (London, Sheffield or Liverpool) and/or to client locations, and you are eligible to work in the UK.
Zend and/or MySQL certifications are preferred, but not required. However, we do require all new employees to become Zend Certified Engineers within the first few months of employment (at our expense).

Your salary will start in the range £30,000 to £50,000, dependent on your experience. We'll provide you with the latest tools to help you do your job (Mac/PC/Linux/whatever you feel comfortable with). Our technical staff receive regular training (up to 5 days/year) and are encouraged to attend PHP/open source conferences (up to 5 days/year). You'll also benefit from eligibility to join our company BUPA scheme (after one year's service), childcare vouchers (from day one) and free eye tests.
